About

A seventh generation Hoosier with a strong drive for public service, Greg has left their mark across Michigan City and La Porte  County.

They began their professional career as a Community Engagement Librarian at the La Porte County Public Library. Greg’s work supported LGBTQ teens, homebound library users, and adults learning to care for aging parents.  They worked on a team of librarians supporting greater health literacy. Greg developed a wide network  in public health, which recognized their leadership skills and connected them to opportunities to further  serve their community. In their current role as the Tobacco Program Coordinator at Healthy  Communities of La Porte County, Greg promotes tobacco prevention and cessation. A major component  of their work is developing networks between people to foster institutional change.

Their love for Michigan City and its history is undeniable. Greg identified key players and brought  together a team to host a traveling Smithsonian exhibit in La Porte County. As part of this project, Greg  created a local companion exhibit that asks La Porte County residents to consider their relationship with  nature. This work connected them to the Michigan City Historical Society (MCHS). Greg has carried this local institution into the twenty-first century. After long hours modernizing the website, point-of sale-system, and marketing materials, Greg made sure to find time to network, letting Michigan City  know that its Historical Society is here to tell their story. Having been named the MCHS’s Historian, Greg continues to work in local history as the  Old Lighthouse Museums prepares to celebrate is fiftieth anniversary in 2023. Greg is currently working  with the Dunes Learning Center to improve their first-person interpretation program.

Greg is an active volunteer with PFLAG, the Aliveness Project of Northwest Indiana, the HIV Modernization Movement of  Indiana, the Trail Creek Watershed Partnership, and Michigan City Historical Society. Greg serves on the  Michigan City Human Rights Commission and Historical Preservation Commission.

Greg completed a Master of Arts in History from Concordia  University (Montreal, Quebec) and a Master of Library and Information Science from Syracuse University (Syracuse, New York). Greg has completed continuing education classes in drawing and painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, Visual Arts Centre (Montreal, Quebec), and the Lubeznik Center for the Arts (Michigan City, Indiana).

When they are not telling stories, look for Gregory outside: relaxing on patios, exploring harbors, and climbing dunes. They’re likely reading some sort of post apocalyptic novel in which the world starts over again. They have a handsome cat named Jack.
